Struggling to stick to a schedule

Posted by BConsugar on January 30, 2012 at 9:45 AM

I seem to struggle to post here as often as I would like. I need to make a schedule and stick to it. I would like to post here more often.

Does anyone have any suggestions for setting a schedule and sticking to it? I'm open to suggestion. :/

I finally had to make myself post once a week on my blog. Every day, or three days a week were getting to be too much. Now I always post something on Mondays. Sometimes I sneak other things in when I feel like it, but tell myself that I only have to do the Monday post. It helped me.

Thanks for the tip! I will have to pick a day and make that my posting day. The next few weeks I will be able to post on Saturdays. After that, I will try to get up early and keep posting on Saturdays. By early, I mean before anyone else gets up. That might be the only way to do it.

Thanks for the support!

Beth, figure out your least hectic day or days during the week. Then commit to posting on those days. You can also decide on set topics for those days. Once day about writing, one day about reading--something along those lines. I also like to have several posts ready ahead of time. You can set them to post when you want them too. That way, when I'm really busy and don't have time to post, the blog does it for me. Less stress too. Good luck!

Preparing posts ahead of time is a great idea! I will look into that as well, and see if that helps me. Thanks for the tip, Kelly!

You aren't alone, Beth. But the best way to do that is like Kelly suggests. Decide which day of the week is the most hectic for you. I update my blog on Thursdays because when I was working, that was the least hectic day for me. I try to also comment on other blogs that day but now that I'm not working, I comment on whatever days I feel like it, but still try to update on Thursdays. Sometimes it still doesnt work out but I don't kill myself over it if I miss a week. Just do the best you can because that's all any of us can do!

Hi Beth,

Blogging sure does take time. I know what you mean. I think it's important to set a realistic schedule that you'll actually be able to keep. That way you won't get discouraged by not being able to keep up. I aim for once a week. I can't imagine doing any more than that right now.
Also, so many people follow so many blogs, that posting too frequently can make it impossible for readers to keep up.

Hi Beth, I'm with Ruth. Once a week works fine for me (and for the readers since there are so many blogs to read). It gives me enough time to do research and check out the books I want to recommend to readers. Good luck with finding the schedule that works best for you.

I'm participating in some group blogosphere events which happen on certain days. This forces me to put something up on that day. I also schedule half-finished blogs so I have to finish them by that date or these crappy blog posts will go live. :-) It seems to be working so far.
